What is Car spotting?

By Paul Kelly
Choose a Good Camera Device

Your first task in car spotting is selecting a good camera device. After your target cars, you need a camera to take photos.
When choosing a camera, you have different options. While you can choose a standalone professional camera, you can also rely on your device camera, such as the one on your Smartphone. Interestingly, most gadgets now feature high-end cameras that take good pictures.
It is even wise to go with your Smartphone camera, as taking pictures with this camera doesn’t make it obvious you are taking pictures of someone’s car. And if you are bothered about not getting the best quality you would get with an expensive professional camera, keep in mind that you can edit the pictures after taking them. Plus, using your Smartphone gives you access to other important functions.

Determine Your Spotting Route

After selecting a decent camera device, your next step is to locate where to take pictures of those exotic supercars out there. While you can come across these cars anywhere, any time, you want to find your way to where you can spot the cars in their numbers and varieties.
One thing to keep in mind is that you will come across more interesting cars in the nice part of the city than in trashy neighborhoods. But wherever you find yourself, as a car spotter, always be on the alert and get your camera device ready.
Also, if you pass through a car dealership with nice cars, stop and take some nice shots.

Navigate Your Route

Similar to finding interesting cars is how you get through your route, and your means of transportation comes into play here. Walking on foot or a bicycle makes it easier to stop as you want, but you might not go as fast as you want. However, you will appreciate the flexibility of taking pictures from different angles.
If you are in a car, though, it is more professional to go with a driver, as you can fully concentrate on your car-spotting activity without the need to pay attention to the road.
If you notice an exotic car at a light, quickly take some pictures before it moves. And if you find a nice car before you while driving, follow the car at a good pace to do your job.

Take Your Pictures

When taking pictures of interesting cars, whether while driving or at a light, it is important to pay attention to a few factors.
Here is our detailed guide on how to take good car pictures.  (Please insert link here.)

Edit and Upload Your Pictures

Once you have taken pictures of those interesting, rare cars, the final step is to upload and show them to the world. However, you want to edit them before uploading them to correct any imperfections in the pictures.
Thanks to advanced technology, editing pictures is easier and more affordable. While you can invest in paid software/apps, there are free options to support your car-spotting job.
Finally, when uploading the pictures on Instagram, Facebook, CarThrottle, or a blog, use as many relevant tags as possible and share them with many people. This will enhance visibility and may land you a job as a professional car spotter for companies that need pictures to use on their sites, Instagram, or Facebook.
